E3 - New Products For Wii, 360, PS3, and DS Lite

Filed under Handheld News, PC News, Xbox, ps3, wii on July 10th, 2007

Nyko Technologies today announced their product lineup. The lineup includes new products for the Nintendo Wii , PlayStation 3, and the Nintendo DS Lite, including a new version of the popular Intercooler for the Wii, as well as all-new products such as the Zero for PS3 and Party Station for Wii. All products are currently slated to ship to retail in Fall of 2007.

The Intercooler for Wii is the next installment in Nyko’s popular line of console cooling solutions. The unit attaches easily to the back of the Wii, ensuring a perfect fit and cooler ambient temperature levels, thanks to a built-in fan that increases airflow circulation out from the unit’s main ventilation slot. For added convenience, the Intercooler also powers on and off with the console itself, as well as features a white finish that matches the original color scheme of the Wii.

For the ultimate in Wii party experiences, Nyko’s introduces The Party Station. Combining multiplayer conveniences with food and drink storage, the Party Station is one of the most unique Wii products, but also one of the most useful. Multiple LCD scoreboards allows gamers to keep track of multiplayer face-offs, while the Party Station’s built-in fan keeps hands cool during the most heated of tournaments. When it’s time to eat, the Party Station’s built-in snack and dip bowls keep the food coming, while drinks stay upright in four cup holders, including four supplied freezable cup sleeves to keep them chilled. Storage is also made simple with four slots to hold Wii remotes and a drawer to store accessories like SD cards and manuals. The Party Station is designed to maximize the social gaming experience unique to the Wii.

The Power Adapter for Wii provides gamers with a simple solution for powering their Wii console. The Power Adapter plugs into any standard wall outlet, and also features a built-in LED to indicate when the unit is connected to AC power as well as a visual modeling that compliments the Wii console.

All three new Nyko products for the Wii will ship in the Fall of 2007.

For the ultimate solution in PS3 gaming, the Zero Wireless Controller is the final word in wireless and convenient controller options. Continuing the popularity of Nyko’s Zero controller line, the PS3 Zero features a unique metal polymer hybrid design putting the most advanced controller into the hands of PS3 gamers. Able to provide up to 25 hours of continuous play with the included removable and rechargeable NiMH battery, the Zero also features a revolutionary wireless chipset that provides a reliable and accurate range of up to 30 feet as well as backlit LED buttons and precision analog sticks, buttons, and triggers for maximum durability. The controller is also equipped with a precise accelerometer that detects six different directions of motion for the most accurate game play experience. The Zero Wireless Controller is available in three distinct color schemes to match the tastes of any gamer.

DS Lite gamers needing a convenient carrying and charging solution for their portable handheld need look no further than Nyko’s Ultimate Kit Lite. The bundle comes in multiple color designs, and each includes a stylish, protective carrying case, matching car charger and DS styli. A supplied carabineer allows the carrying case to be attached to a backpack or belt, while convenient pockets on the case allow for the storage of up to eight DS game cards.

The Zero Wireless Controller, and Ultimate Kit Lite will ship to retailers in August of 2007.

Wii Shop Channel Gets Three New Classic Games

Filed under wii on July 9th, 2007

Three new classic games go live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel every Monday. Wiiâ„¢ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Pointsâ„¢ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week’s new games are:

Mach Rider® (NES®, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): It’s the year 2112. Earth has been invaded by the forces of evil. Battle the invaders as you race from sector to sector on your motorcycle, searching for survivors. Feel the incredible sense of speed as you zip past evil Quadrunners and zigzag between treacherous rocks, oil spills and other obstacles on the course. For a different challenge, create your own course in Design Mode, using the various twists, turns and straightaways the game has to offer. Remember, you are Earth’s only hope—you are Mach Rider.

Yoshi® (NES, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Yoshi is an action/puzzle game starring Mario’s dinosaur buddy, Yoshiâ„¢, who has been imprisoned in an egg. Now it’s raining Goombas, Bloopers and Boo Buddies, and you have to help Marioâ„¢ stop the airborne invasion. As the critters fall, catch them on trays. Stack two of a kind and they both disappear, or capture the whole bunch in between eggshells. When the eggshells match, out hatches Yoshi and up goes your score. The action heats up as the characters fall faster and faster. To save the day, switch and shuffle, and don’t let your piles get too high.

Air “Zonk” (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone - Mild Cartoon Violence, 600 Wii Points): Air “Zonk” is a spin-off of the popular Bonk’s Adventure series. This side-scrolling shooter retains the same cartoonish style of Bonk but is set in a cyberpunk future. The powered-up “Zonk” gathers his friends to form Team Cool, and they set out to stop King Drool’s plan to conquer the world. Choose from three levels of difficulty and three Friend Modes. Shoot King Drool’s cyber-robots and avoid their attacks while collecting the Air Bones to unleash a variety of unique attacks. Combine with a friend to create an invincible hybrid form or blast enemies with a charged attack. Air “Zonk” is filled with humor, made evident by the wacky theme song that plays when you post a huge score or when your game is over.

Want to make a Game for the Wii?

Filed under wii on June 27th, 2007

Officials from Nintendo have confirmed plans to release original downloadable content on the Wii, with an announcement today at a private Nintendo developer conference.

The company describes WiiWare as a “game-creation service” that will allow developers of all sizes to create downloadable games content for sale by Nintendo through the Wii Shop Channel.

Currently over one hundred retro tiles are available for download via the Wii’s virtual console, with games paid for via redeemable Wii Points. Other content has so far been restricted to new interactive channels, all of which have been free (although the Internet Channel – featuring a re-purposed Opera Web browser - will incur a charge of 500 Wii Points ($5) from the beginning of July).

In a press statement Nintendo suggests that WiiWare will pave the way for “smaller, more creative games” at lower prices and without any inventory risk to developer. Despite the announcement today, though, the first WiiWare content will not be launched until early 2008.

“Independent developers armed with small budgets and big ideas will be able to get their original games into the marketplace to see if we can find the next smash hit,” said Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime. “WiiWare brings new levels of creativity and value to the ever-growing population of Wii owners.”
