playstation_store.jpgGamers can connect their PSP to the PlayStation 3 console to download PSone games to play on the handheld from the PlayStation store. Those without a PS3, however, are shit out of luck – unless they live in Japan.

Sony has announced at TGS, that the PlayStation Store can now be accessed using a PC. Here is the kicker … wait for it ……This currently only applies to the Japanese market *BAM!*, North America *BAM!* and European *BAM!* PSP owners must continue to access the downloadable content via the PS3. *BAM! BAM! BAM!*

Will this option will make it to the North American and European markets, who knows. If Sony is smart they will quickly open this up to the other markets, but who knows.

Play Your PS3 Lair on your PSP!

Filed under Handheld News, ps3 on September 3rd, 2007

Lair, has become the first PS3 Blu-Ray game to allow full gameplay on the PSP via Remote Connection.

Remote Connection is a feature built into the PSP and PS3 that allows you to access your PS3 via the PSP handheld - but it hasn’t previously allowed you to play PS3 games remotely, only access to your stored music and video.

The main reason for the restriction, we expect, was because Remote Play requires the PS3 to stream the video and sound signal to PSP which, due to the limitations of the wireless connection technology, tends to be quite low quality and often lag-ridden.

But if you’re willing to put up with a substantial drop in visual quality, you can play Lair on the handheld using the little analogue knob to control your dragon.

Hopefully, future games will follow suit, allowing you to play your latest PS3 titles potentially from anywhere in the world via the internet.

What Proof?

Video Games: Raising YOUR kids Is YOUR Job Not The Governments

Filed under Featured, General news and Rants, Handheld News, PC News, Xbox, ps3, wii on August 30th, 2007

What a novel concept, parents taking the responsibility for what kids (who don’t normally have jobs) buy. I have two boys one is 14 and one is 2, and they don’t play any games in my house I did not approve or buy first. So take the responsibility it’s your job not the job government to make sure YOUR kids do what is right.

If my son buys a game on his own I play it first, then if I do not approve of It make him return it. I tell him why I think the game was wrong. It’s not the job of the TV, computer, internet, his friends or the video games plays, to tell him what’s right and wrong that’s MY JOB, I am not his friend I am the parent first and I am here to make sure he grows up knowing right from wrong good from bad. If he fails in this it’s MY fault alone.

According to an Associated Press report, the Dutch Ministry was powerless to ban the controversial title as any intervention would have contravened the country’s laws.

Unlike in Britain or Germany, there is no authoritative ratings board or law in the Netherlands banning games purely for violent content, Justice Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin wrote in a letter to Parliament:

“The current law is based on the principle that every adult is considered capable of deciding for himself which games he wants to play, unless it contains illegal material,” he said. That would include racist propaganda or images appealing to pedophiles.

Deciding on whether children should be allowed to play a game is currently “the joint responsibility of parents, the audiovisual industry and the government,” he said. His ministry was now examining whether new laws or policies were needed “to better protect the youth,” he said.

The US Can Now Play Manhunt 2!

Filed under Handheld News, PC News, ps3, wii on August 24th, 2007

manhunt-2-wii-box-art-final.jpgRockstar Games today announced it will release Manhunt 2 for the PlayStation 2, PSP (PlayStation Portable) system, and the Wii home video game system from Nintendo in North America on October 31, 2007. This announcement follows the submission of a modified version of Manhunt 2 to the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), who has now rated the title “M” for Mature for ages 17 and older.

In June, Take-Two was compelled to suspend the release of the horror title when the ESRB issued an AO (Adults Only) rating.

Manhunt 2 is important to us, and we’re glad it can finally be appreciated as a gaming experience,” said Sam Houser, founder and executive producer of Rockstar Games. “We love the horror genre. Manhunt 2 is a powerful piece of interactive story telling that is a unique video game experience. We think horror fans will love it.”

Manhunt 2 is an extraordinary game, and we eagerly anticipate its release in North America,” added Strauss Zelnick, Chairman of Take-Two.

Manhunt 2 is the debut title from the newly formed Rockstar London studio, which is developing the game in conjunction with series creator Rockstar North. Early previews of Manhunt 2 have consistently praised the game’s original design and creative use of narrative, tone, and atmosphere to evoke an experience many consider unmatched in video games. The Wii version is being developed by Rockstar Toronto.

Video games rated Mature are for consumers ages 17 and older and are not intended for children. Along with the Mature rating, the ESRB also assigned the following content descriptors to Manhunt 2: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content and Use of Drugs.
