People have figured out how to unlock Apple’s iPhone from AT&T’s cellular network, if you are hoping to make money from the procedure you could face very real legal problems. One of the companies hoping to make money by unlocking iPhones said it is uncertain after a deluge of calls from lawyers representing the phone company.

Unlocking the phone for one’s own use, appears to be legal. If you’re doing it for financial benefit, the legitimacy is less certain. More than a few groups have said that the unlocking software for iPhones is ready, but they are holding off till they see what kind of fallout comes over the next few weeks.

The iPhone was sold only in the U.S., and exclusively for use on the AT&T network. It is compatible with most cell phone networks around the globe. With the iPhone obsession spanning the globe, millions of people would pay truck loads of cash to ‘Be Cool’ and have one of the only iPhone’s around. Lots of cash is going to be lost (AT&T) and gained (iPhone unlocking groups) over the next few months. When ever you have that much cash flying and apple is involved, some one is going to get sued. With all that said I would love to have a iPhone on my T-Mobile account.
