Microsoft owns It, Now Get over It!

Microsoft has failed to STOP racism from joining the Forza 2 gaming community. Yesterday over at 360Gamer they posted an article about people using the Forza 2 paintjob editor to create racist themed cars and place them for sale into the online auction.

Since the game’s launch, Turn 10 has been taking steps in order to get on top of the issue, closing auctions with offensive material where needed as well as recently launching an abuse report form where gamers can report offending auctions.

Fine and good, but is it really working? From what we’ve seen, no it’s not. Case in point, Dreamer61’s 1957 Mercedes 300SL pictured below. The car bears the traditional colours of the NSDAP (a majority black background with a black swastika contained in a white circle on a blood red banner), along with SS insignia and such slogans as “Heil Hitler” and “White Power”, along with a further racist comment on the other side that, in the interests of good taste, we shall refrain from stating.

Over at StopGeek they had a response to 360Gamer’s article that I understand, but fundamentally I think it’s wrong.

Why not just ignore the things that bother you? Seeing a Nazi super car is offensive? Come on. As much as I hate racial stereotypes, bigotry, and racism, this just seems silly to get all worked up about. Reminds me of how countless mothers cried bloody murder because of South Park, or Grand Theft Auto.

I do agree with a lot of what StopGeek is trying to say, but you have to understand Microsoft owns the game and everything in it. It’s still Microsoft’s game and content, user made or not.

If this was out side the game and some one did that to his car, and the government wanted him to repaint it because it was “Racist”. I would pack by bags because it would be time to leave. My Father and His Father and His Fathers Father all served in the military to give some “Ignorant Dumb Ass” the ability to speak his mind in this country.

The bottom line is that Microsoft owns the game, owns the auction and owns the network you connect too play on. I stand behind Microsoft’s decision to allow or not allow something, But I don’t Support it. Have you ever seen a sign that says “No Shirt, No Shoes No Service“. If you don’t like it don’t play the game? We as a people have started to become too much of a politically correct society over all and I hope it stops before it goes much farther.
