Mass Effect best game ever?

That’s a basically what The Official Xbox Magazine is saying, according to a scan of the holiday issue at N4G.com. Before giving the game a perfect 10, the reviwer, Paul Curthoys, said:
Still, that’s what’s remarkable about Mass Effect. If you separated the gameplay from the story, you could crap on the gameplay for a handful of different things. But in this game, story and gameplay are relentlessly intertwined, and the impact of that is so powerful that any irritation you feel is washed clean away.

Curthoys then wraps up the review by saying this is the best game ever.
The experience as a whole - the sense of awe that lasts all game long, and the emotions in your gut as you sit back at the end and just gape - pays off all on its own. Personally, it’s the best game I’ve ever played, but even if you’re not a hardcore sci-fi nerd like me, Mass Effect is a transcendent experience, the new standard-setter for what a game can be. You have to play it, and that’s why we’re kinda jealous of you. Even if you memorized all the previews and trailers, you’re still not ready for how awesome this game is.

A little bird told us: Work on the next Mass Effect game got underway in October at BioWare. The team is exploring where your character in the first Mass Effect can carry over, but with such a dramatically branching story, it just might not be possible. As long as they try, that’s all we ask…
I’m honestly kind of fearful for how I’ll feel about Mass Effect. After consuming every bit of content I can, I don’t think it could be hyped up for me any more than it already is. I’m hearing from literally all corners that this game is insanely good, so what happens if it isn’t the gaming masterpiece everyone says it is? I guess I’ll just have to run out to get it on launch day so I can find out as soon as possible. Oh, the sacrifices I must make in life!
