Halo 3 Believe the Hype?

We should demand something new, something different in our games. Don’t just add a number to the title, change the graphics and the maps and maybe adding a new weapon or two, and then call it “NewOldGame 3” **cough, Halo 3**. It’s almost like what is going on with the movie industry now days. How many remakes or sequels have you see at the box office in the last 5 years? (Way to many to even count)

I just don’t think the game has changed from halo 1 to halo 3 that much too even warrant having a halo 2 at all. Halo was never the First at anything in the game world, other than one of the first FPS games on Xbox. That was the ONLY reason it was one of the top selling games 4 years running was due to the fact it was also only 1 of 5 launch titles for the Xbox.

Halo 1 is well just a good game and not the end all be all in the FPS market, as a Xbox exclusive yes, the gaming world No. I just see little if any advancement in the game to justify a new Halo about every 2 - 3 years.

  • HALO 1 Xbox was released November 15, 2001 | Windows on July 12, 2002 *Update* September 30, 2003 Thanks to spiffv2
  • HALO 2 Xbox on November 9, 2004 | Windows Vista May 29th, 2007
  • HALO 3 Xbox 360 September 25, 2007 | Windows ???? Someday

If you look at Halo Wars it is a RTS not a FPS and I think pushes the title in a new and refreshing direction. I think it would have been great if you could have played an alien in Halo3. But noooo it looks to be the same old game play, just with a new suit on. My overall point is that so many games are going down the same road of “let’s keep pushing out the games to keep the buzz until we can really make something good” I just don’t think they will be able to make a game to live up to the hype they have built around HALO Brand. I sit and hope and pray to be impressed for my 60.00, but some how I KNOW I will be sorely disappointed.

DagBot - You’re an idiot

First off, your website is complete shit and secondly, maybe you shouldn’t hate a game solely because you are bad at it. You are glorifying Halo Wars when it will just be another generic RTS that will be far inferior to Starcraft II. Same old game play with a new suit? You think it would have been great to play as an alien? Is that sarcasm as what, because you played as an alien in 50% of the Halo 2 single player campaign.

All this is, is some blog from some failure of a blogger, writer, whatever, trying to get attention by talking about a game he has never played.

You’re a fucking idiot.

Sounds like your a Halo Fan Boy to me.
With that said, I was saying that The HALO franchise needs something new to bring more legitimacy to the title and not just the same game new graphics. Thats why I talked about Halo Wars, Yes it s RTS, yes its been done before, but not in the Halo world.
It’s not that SomeGame B was better than Halo, It’s that Halo needs to do something more than put out a Game every 2 years. And people will buy it just because it has HALO in the title.

While I agree with Insight on quite a few points, I would like to add a few of my own. First off, I don’t believe the Halo series is the best franchise to attack with this argument. I would think Madden or any other sports title would be more appropriate. Secondly, in economics there is supply and demand. The community demands another Halo game therefore Bungie and Microsoft supply. Without this there would be no need for another Halo game(Wiki Advent Rising to understand what I mean). Now with that out of the way let’s look at your argument against Halo’s series. How many sequels are we going to see? Well, supposedly after this none. You see the Halo games, unlike most other FPS games, have a solid single player story. Which is a bigger reason for it being a top selling game four years running. This story is in it’s last part.

You say you want something different, well that is why there is variety in the games industry. There are shooters aplenty, and all you have to do is a little digging for one that fits your style. Halo was the first at not many things but only the most important. It was the first FPS to be done right on the console. The proof is in the influence. There are a great deal of Halo imitators out there, from the control scheme to the gameplay and in some instances characters and story. Have you ever heard of the term Halo killer? This is a term used for FPS with hopes of dethroning Halo as THE console shooter. So far the only game to accomplish that is Halo 2 which introduced dual wielding weapons, vehicle boarding, matchmaking, introduced new enemies, and gave a refreshing view from the Covenant perspective (Something I remember you mentioning above).

Halo 3 looks to improve on all of this with the addition of Equipment, which are deployable units that can range from a personal shield to a flashbang type grenade. Not only that but it will also allow up to 4 people to play through campaign together, and will bring what I find to the best of the features, Saved films and Forge. Saved films allow you to go back and watch the entire mission or game unfold. You have multiple options of viewing this too, you can watch from your perspective, your teammates, your enemies, or you can detach the camera and control it at your leisure. Forge is a map editor, which allows you to change the content of a map. Not the geometry, but what is actually in the map, such as weapons, powerups, equipment, and other things such as concrete road blocks and exploding canisters.

Now with all this I can understand that maybe you are not a Halo fan and don’t grasp why others like it. I myself have the same problem with the MGS series, although my main compaint is the type of gameplay. I much prefer run and gun as opposed to tricking dim-witted soldiers by hiding in a cardboard box, but Halo also allows me to be sneaky if I want to be. So I think your argument is weak and from an uninformed perspective as far as Halo games are considered.

Another thing of note is your poor research, Halo PC did not come out on July 12, 2002. It actually came out on September 30, 2003. So please before offending a community as vast as the one that supports Halo please be more informed and accurate, next time you might not run into such a nice guy like me.

Have a nice day.

I can’t believe how stupid this article was. You don’t know anything about Halo and why it was important to the FPS genre. You stated that it didn’t do anything new. It single handedly inspired all of the FPS’s in the last 5 years with the recovery health system and its two-weapon dynamic. It was also the first console FPS to match PC shooters with an innovative multiplayer system that has yet to be matched. Halo 3 is introducing 4-player co-op for both off and online gaming. What other shooter has that? Quit hating something without doing research or even trying it. Or at least be more objective about it rather than trying to get some cheap hits by opposing one of the most lucrative gaming properties.

spiffv2:
Thanks for the comments. I do understnad your point and respect your ideas. Thanks For the Update on the PC release date.

To The Rest:
I do have Halo 1 and I have played Halo 2 and Have Halo 3 on preorder. With it being Billed as the next coming of Christ by most if not all main stream media sites. Can it still live up to the HALO name and what most think the game should be, me included.

You DO realize that those aren’t his ideas, those are all facts for the most part.

I also like how you don’t really respond to any of the facts presented to you at all.. I’m still waiting for your response to you wanting to play as an alien and me saying that was what Halo 2 brought to the table.

Why are you a writer again? Do yourself a favor and find yourself a new hobby.

Will Halo live up to the hype? Yes, because Halo 2 wasn’t even fully completed and was rushed and it was still considered one of the greatest FPS of this era.

Congrats on getting owned this entire topic, DagBot. Personally, I’d like to see some new members out of the internet, and stop seeing pseudo-intelligent jackasses like you pop up everywhere.

The few posters before me have made enough of an ass out of you, so the only thing I’ll add is that all I had to see was this:

“I think it would have been great if you could have played an alien in Halo3.”
-You, being an idiot

The fact that you

A) Didn’t realize that playing as “an alien” is an option in multiplayer in halo 2

B) Didn’t realize that you played as an alien in half of Halo 2’s campaign

and C) Don’t call “An alien” the covenant

all lead me to believe that you either know next to nothing about the game, or that you’ve never even played either of the halos. The latter being the most likely option.

Look it comes down to opinion vs. opinion - point of view vs. point of view. If you don’t question the status quo then you get the same regurgitated crap. All the Hype is WAY over the top and it’s hard not to see your self as the mark in a bad game of “three card monty”

Moose and Insight:
Yes I know playing as an “Alien” was part of halo 2. I think they should have taken it beyond that and allowed you to play the full game from the Alien point of view in the story line.

Lmao, Moose, this is a ploy to get people to sign up for the site and actually leave comments. No one in their right mind is dumb enough to type what DagBot has written, we are all suckers… it’s the only explanation.

Up to 7 diggs! What a success!
