PlayStation Store On Your PC but Only For Japan

Filed under Handheld News, PC News, ps3 on September 21st, 2007

playstation_store.jpgGamers can connect their PSP to the PlayStation 3 console to download PSone games to play on the handheld from the PlayStation store. Those without a PS3, however, are shit out of luck – unless they live in Japan.

Sony has announced at TGS, that the PlayStation Store can now be accessed using a PC. Here is the kicker … wait for it ……This currently only applies to the Japanese market *BAM!*, North America *BAM!* and European *BAM!* PSP owners must continue to access the downloadable content via the PS3. *BAM! BAM! BAM!*

Will this option will make it to the North American and European markets, who knows. If Sony is smart they will quickly open this up to the other markets, but who knows.

WSVG Has been Canceled And Has Closed Its Doors

Filed under General news and Rants, Handheld News, PC News, Xbox, ps3, wii on September 12th, 2007

Games Media Properties announced today that it would no longer produce the World Series of Video games and that the remainder of its 2007 pro-gaming series had been canceled.

GMP wrote in a statement that “Effective immediately, Games Media Properties will no longer produce the World Series of Video Games. The remainder of the 2007 season in Los Angeles, London and Sweden is canceled.

The World Series of Video Games launched with the goal of expanding interest and participation in competitive gaming. Over the course of two seasons, we have been honored by the strong support the community has shown in attending our festivals, and watching our competitions online and on television– all in record-setting numbers. We have been grateful for the generous support provided by Intel and other sponsors since our inception.

However, the continuing challenges of securing adequate revenues to sustain the production of the WSVG’s large scale events and television programming, in a very crowded field of competitive gaming leagues, has prompted us to re-evaluate our direction as an organization.

Unfortunately, the decision is to cancel the remainder of the WSVG season, as we shift our focus solely to growing our online advertising network of websites, which currently reach seven million users each month.

We are proud of the accomplishments and memorable entertainment we have provided through the World Series of Video Games. While we are sorry that this news will disappoint our fans and players, we are deeply appreciative that we have had the opportunity to contribute to the growth of eSports.”

Play Your PS3 Lair on your PSP!

Filed under Handheld News, ps3 on September 3rd, 2007

Lair, has become the first PS3 Blu-Ray game to allow full gameplay on the PSP via Remote Connection.

Remote Connection is a feature built into the PSP and PS3 that allows you to access your PS3 via the PSP handheld - but it hasn’t previously allowed you to play PS3 games remotely, only access to your stored music and video.

The main reason for the restriction, we expect, was because Remote Play requires the PS3 to stream the video and sound signal to PSP which, due to the limitations of the wireless connection technology, tends to be quite low quality and often lag-ridden.

But if you’re willing to put up with a substantial drop in visual quality, you can play Lair on the handheld using the little analogue knob to control your dragon.

Hopefully, future games will follow suit, allowing you to play your latest PS3 titles potentially from anywhere in the world via the internet.

What Proof?

Video Games: Raising YOUR kids Is YOUR Job Not The Governments

Filed under Featured, General news and Rants, Handheld News, PC News, Xbox, ps3, wii on August 30th, 2007

What a novel concept, parents taking the responsibility for what kids (who don’t normally have jobs) buy. I have two boys one is 14 and one is 2, and they don’t play any games in my house I did not approve or buy first. So take the responsibility it’s your job not the job government to make sure YOUR kids do what is right.

If my son buys a game on his own I play it first, then if I do not approve of It make him return it. I tell him why I think the game was wrong. It’s not the job of the TV, computer, internet, his friends or the video games plays, to tell him what’s right and wrong that’s MY JOB, I am not his friend I am the parent first and I am here to make sure he grows up knowing right from wrong good from bad. If he fails in this it’s MY fault alone.

According to an Associated Press report, the Dutch Ministry was powerless to ban the controversial title as any intervention would have contravened the country’s laws.

Unlike in Britain or Germany, there is no authoritative ratings board or law in the Netherlands banning games purely for violent content, Justice Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin wrote in a letter to Parliament:

“The current law is based on the principle that every adult is considered capable of deciding for himself which games he wants to play, unless it contains illegal material,” he said. That would include racist propaganda or images appealing to pedophiles.

Deciding on whether children should be allowed to play a game is currently “the joint responsibility of parents, the audiovisual industry and the government,” he said. His ministry was now examining whether new laws or policies were needed “to better protect the youth,” he said.
